I always enjoy these roundups, thanks Katy! Keeping my fingers crossed Claudette Johnson wins the Turner prize! And fun seeing the UK cover of Intermezzo. We have a completely different one in the US.
Hi Katy. Went to the Frankenthaler show yesterday at the Strozzi. It was truly wonderful to view the shifts in texture. I’d never seen that expression with tools. It’s layering that felt new. It was special to see Motherwell’s Helen’s Collage. Strong recommendation. We missed the Bourgeois show.
Also I’m grateful for how you introduced me to Artemesia Gentileschi. It was amazing to see her paintings at both the Uffizzi and the Palatine gallery which also had one by her father. The motion and emotion in the beheading painting was chilling, especially since it shared gallery space with Caravaggio. I noted other female painters here in Florence.
All this art will wind me up for Rome! My obsession with Madonnas continues. If you know of small private museums in Rome or specific places you recommend I’d love to hear from
