Wonderful piece — completely immersive. I’ve been a bit obsessed with Celia Paul ever since I first saw a portrait of her in a Lucian Freud exhibit in London 2020…and then I read her memoir, heard your podcast with her, read her second book, the Letters to Gwen John, and now this! What a delight and congratulations— what a fitting honour to have your work celebrating women artists with a great artist!

Katy - what a wonderful article about stillness, silence, creating art, Celia, you, the light…just so lovely.

Wish I could be there to hear your conversation with Celia but I’m in the States. Hope it’s recorded! 🙏

I was so happy to get this in my inbox this morning. Just last month a painting mentor sent me an article about Celia in the Guardian and now this. Love this piece! Thank you!

It is instructive for me ... I just started having my friends sit for me to paint and I'm learning so many things about painting portraits from a live sitting, including how the sitters feel about it. One of them found it to be a singular and, I think, profound experience.

Loved that article - even reading it was a quietening experience - made me feel very calm and almost as if I were there. Hope to see the painting in real life one day soon!
