You could argue with the statement that paintings don’t end or change. A painting of Rembrandt now hanging in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is not the same as it was placed in his studio. The paint changes, the colours change. The Nightwatch was even being cut. Of course this goes on a much slower level than music. There is also this piece of John Cage called ORGAN2/ASLSP (as slow as possible) that can have a duration of over 26 years. Then there is a piece called Longplayer, by Jem Finer, that lasts 1000 years.
I would like to know how she perceived her flight path; did she depart from a classical beaux arts training or just emerge as a full blown non figurative painter?
Your article has deepened my appreciation for how Mitchell navigated the male-dominated art world of her time, not just by holding her own but by expanding the language of painting itself. It’s fascinating to see how her background, from her complicated family dynamics to her immersion in both American and French art circles, shaped her distinct voice. Thank you for shedding light on her artistic journey and the enduring impact of her work.
Like excerpt. I read the girls on 6th street, about the abstract expressionists. And her work is singular. I review art books now and then. Did one on Dorthea Tanning’s later work relased from D.A.P.
Fascinating
Thank you forming a venue encompassing work of fantastic girls !
Nice post!

So fascinating! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic energy to this work! Some of UK Gillian Ayres paintings chime with these?
Thanks Joan, can’t wait for one of the museums to have retrospective exhibition of her work
Gorgeous piece that really turned a key in a lock I've been puzzling at. THANK YOU.

I enjoyed reading this. I find her work richer than some of the other ab-exers.
